These floral images were captured at a variety of locations - the sunflowers were spotted by the side of the road in Concord, and thus inspiring a spontaneous photo shoot, while the pitcher plant and water lilies somehow called to me, amidst hundreds of other blooms in California at a flower conservancy. And sometimes a photographic opportunity is very close by, such as the hostas, which were captured in my front yard after a summer rain shower, with the light shining through.
"Moving Beyond the Obvious" summarizes what I love about photography. Once I started studying photography, I began to see beyond the obvious scene in front of me, and I discovered that there are limitless ways to convey a scene; focusing on just a detail, or including the background, or waiting for the perfect light. My professional life is composed of science, logic and evidence based ideas. Photography has opened up a world where I can be creative, loose and non-linear, how refreshing!
I do not have a specialty. I photograph everyday life, travel, and family & friends (when they allow it). Photography allows me an opportunity to develop my previously undiscovered creative side, and appreciate the beauty of the world in new and unexpected ways. I love to find a new angle, detail, or depth of field that can add something unexpected or eye-catching to the world around me.
